Shiho nage (四方投げ)

Shiho: Four Directions.
Nage: projection.

The four-way throw is a technique that involves controlling and twisting uke's arm, lifting it with both hands along the outside of the arm. To avoid injury, arm control is achieved by keeping uke's elbow close to his ear.
Technique based on a defensive and cutting movement with bokken.

In Shiho nage, we see how sword work translates directly into open-hand movement. The upper series begins with gyaku hanmi. We immediately need to stay out of line, away from the attack, by turning our body 90 degrees. We grab uke's wrist, raise the sword in front of our face, pass underneath, twist, and cut with the sword (throw). We extend the sword and cut with its end; the sword will be uke's arm.
